**SPOILERS BE HERE**
My distaste for this book, as stated above, stems from the romance. It was all just so boring! Everyone happily ends up with the person they are with for ulterior motives—really? All of them? I guess I shouldn't include Daphne and Jeff in there since they aren't necessarily happy, but everyone else? Lazy and uninspired, especially since they were all in love with someone else in American Royals! They're all that fickle?! Ugh.
Backing up to Jeff for a second, I'm really disappointed that he virtually ignored. His appearances wouldn't have even filled a chapter; that's just rude. He's a pretty important character considering he is/was involved with two of the narrators and is related to the other two. And no one really experienced much growth. Beatrice got a little more confident in ruling but otherwise....boring people doing nothing.
The parts I actually liked were Beatrice queening. Lord Standish trying to undermine her because he doesn't think the country will respect a young woman ruling them without a man by her side (scoff) was the best plot line. She absolutely needed to fire him as soon as she saw him in Congress and realized he was the reason she wasn't invited to close the session. The book would have been much better if it had focused on struggles like those. Good for her for calling off her wedding so she can rule on her own terms and marry on her own terms.
I'm still giving this book two stars because it was entertaining enough but wow. What was even the point of the first book if this one was just going to destroy all the relationships? And this is the last book? That doesn't really make sense considering how it ended.
